At New Hope Cemetery, Long Lane, Dallas County, Missouri

scan0285Even though the Shank family ended up in Phillipsburg, when they first moved to Missouri from Ohio in 1870, they landed in Dallas County near Long Lane.  This is where most of the Shank family, the Massie family, and eventually some of the McMenus family ended up being buried.  This photo was taken on a trip to Missouri when my oldest brother was only 2-1/2 years old in 1939.  They were visiting the graves of the Shank family and my mother’s mother, Inez McMenus Shank.  The church building in the left background is the Primitive Baptist Church which still stands.  The people in the photo from left are my mother, her father, Eli Shank, brother Larry Marlin, Carrie Shank, my step grandmother, and my mother’s half sister, Jean Shank.
