BABE and PAL – 1926

001aOn the right is my mother’s cousins, Ednah Barbara Lewis, with her daughter, Ruthanna Lewis.  The photo was taken on July 4th, 1926.  Ruthanna was 12 years old, at Aunt Annie and Uncle Walter’s home in what became Highland Park, CA.   Over the years, and by the time this photo was taken, most in the family had developed pet or nicknames.  Ruthanna was known as “Babe” all the rest of her life, the Ednah was called “Pal” by her mother and daughter.  Aunt Annie became “Mumsie” and Uncle Walter became “Daddy”.  They used these endearments in person and in all their correspondence.
