This ruin is associated with William Penn and family. His father was given lands in Ireland by Oliver Cromwell after the elder Penn had successfully quelled rebellion in Ireland. Some histories say William was born in London, but locally, Shanagarry claims he was born there. He was also given a castle before he left for the New World and founded Pennsylvania. The ruin here is next to the Shanagarry Design Centre and has been added onto where some sort of art center is being built. YOu can’t see it from the road, I only came across it by driving behind the design center.
