Many of the Irish beaches around Dublin (especially Killiney Beach) have stones along the shore rather than a lot of sand. I am told they are remnants of the Ice Age. As you travel around Ireland, you also find colored stones in many other places, sometimes natural and sometimes placed on driveways or walkways. These stones were in Shanagarry, County Cork, Ireland, and since it was raining, they looked even more colorful than usual.

I find pebble beaches fascinating (not simply because I live in a place full of sand!)

Yes, I had never seen anything but sandy beaches until I went to Ireland.

How colorful! I’d want to fill my pockets with these lovely stones.

I laughed out loud when I read your comment…I have a couple of big jars of these very same stones which I have brought home from Ireland on various trips! Shells also.
