Ray and Anna Marlin – August, 1934

Laclede County, Conway, MissouriThis photo was taken in August, 1934, about six months after Ray J. Marlin and Anna Marie Shank were married.  They lived on a farm with Mr. and Mrs. Graham, my mother doing the housework and cooking, and my father working the farm.  They spent only a few months in Missouri before traveling to California with my father’s uncle, Scott Marlin.  There was work in California, and they traveled across the Dust Bowl to get there, arriving with $7.31 in their collective pockets.
