SHAKESPEARE at AVONDALE HOUSE – County Wicklow Ireland

Avondale House, Rathdrum, Wickow Ireland Shakespeare Romeo and JulietHere is a series of photos I took in 2006 when we went to see a production of Romeo and Juliet outdoors at Avondale House, Rathdrum, County Wicklow, Ireland.  It was September, and the weather was dry, but clouds rolled in and out during the performance.  Above is Romeo, and below is Juliet and then a couple of shots of the production.  We took lawn chairs, drank wine and enjoyed the performance.  Photo at the bottom is the front of Avondale House, which is surrounded by a Heritage Park full of all sorts of trees, many of them transplanted from other parts of the world.  The house was the home of the Parnell family.  It is where Charles Stewart Parnell, the famous Irish founder and leader of the Parliamentary Party, was born.  The house is now used as a conference cener, though the Irish government used it as a meeting and training facility in the 70’s.  The grounds are really beautiful as you can see from the trees surrounding the stage.
