RATHVILLY CEMETERY – County Carlow, Ireland

Rathvilly Cemetery, Rathvilly, County Carlow, IrelandI have a fascination with cemeteries and graveyards.  A lot of people find them eerie or scary, but for me they are a connection to the past and a tribute to those who came before us.  In Ireland, the grave markers are always full of information, some of it even humorous at times.  It is sad sometimes to see that people died at such young ages, or that one family suffered the death of so many children before they reached adulthood.  But as an amateur genealogist, I always wonder if the information I am looking at on a gravestone is something that someone, somewhere is searching for.

The photo above was taken at the small cemetery in Rathvilly, County Carlow.  It is just off the town center and across from the Church and church graveyard.  Below is another photo of the cemetery and also of the church across the road.

  2. Love your photos. I am writing a family history for my family and this is where my ancestors came from. Can I use your photos of Rathvilly Catholic church and grave-yard please? It is for family use only. I am from Australia.
