Another recipe from my mother’s recipe file:

3-l/4 cup flour

1 teaspoon soda

l/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla

1/2 cup sour cream

Sift flour, soda & salt together.  Combine butter, sugar, egg and vanilla in a separate bowl, beating on medium on smooth.  Add sour cream and half the flour mixture.  Blend well.  Add remaining flour by hand, mixing with a spoon.  Preheat oven to 400 degrees F, divide dough in halves.  On a floured surface, roll 1/4 inch thick.  Sprinkle with sugar and roll it in lightly.  Cut with floured cookie cutter.  Lift each cookie to greased cookie sheet with a pancake turner or other spatula.

Optional:  add raisins to dough or place on top of each cookie.  Bake 8 to 10 minutes until slightly browned.  Makes 6 dozen.
