This is a recipe that my mother always made at Christmas time.

Combine 1/2 cup butter with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 cup flour.  Mix until crumbly.  Pat into a greased 9 x 13 pan and bake ten minutes at 375 degrees F.  Cool.

Beat 2 eggs, add 1 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.  Stir.  Mix 2 tablespoons flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon baking powder, and sift over 1-1/2 cups coconut, stir in 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts.  Add to egg mixture.  Pour over baked crust, spreading evenly.  Bake in 375 degree oven for 20 minutes.  Cool in pan and cut into bars or squares.

NOTE:  Recipe says you can substitute corn flakes for coconut or mix half and half.  We always used 100% coconut.
