I love biscuits and savory muffins.  Here is one that is always a winner!


1 tablespoon olive oil

1/4 cup butter

1/4 cup chopped fresh chives

1-1/2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 cups all purpose baking mix (such as Bisquick)

1 cup grated extra sharp Cheddar cheese

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease a 12 cup muffin pan with olive oil.  In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, add chives and garlic, cook for 2 minutes; remove from heat and set aside.  In a medium bowl, combine baking mix, cheese, garlic powder and pepper.  In a separate bowl, combine buttermilk and butter mixture.  Add buttermilk mixture to baking mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.  Let batter stand for 5 minutes.  Evenly spoon batter into prepared muffin pan.  Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown.  Cool in pan 5 minutes, then remove.
