Dr. Price’s Cookies No. 2 – 1887

This is a basic sugar cookie with no flavoring from 1887.  You had to be an accomplished baker to figure out the flour measurement and thn of course, there were no temperature controls in 1887 where my great grandmother was baking.  Thus…”a quick oven”.  I would estimate it to be 400 degrees.


One cup of white sugar, one half cup of butter, one egg, two tablespoonfuls of sweet milk, and two teaspoonfuls of baking powder.  Add sufficient flour to roll thin.  Bake in a quick oven.
