1887 “COCOANUT COOKIES” – From Dr. Price’s Cook Book

This recipe refers to coconut as “cocoanut”.  I guess this is another thing that has changed over the years…or it was a regional thing like egg “yelks” instead of egg “yolks”.  It’s interesting how many of the cookies in this little book were rolled and cut rather than dropped with a spoon for baking.

One cup sugar, half cup butter, one egg, two tablespoonfuls milk, one and a half teaspoonfuls baking powder, and a little salt, one cup desiccated or grated cocoanut, enough flour to roll.
