Grandmother Marlin and the Parakeet

001bWhen I first saw this photo, I thought my grandmother was pointing to the red roses on the trellis.  Then I looked closer and saw the blue parakeet.  I don’t remember the bird, and I think this must have been taken at the house she lived in after my grandfather died in 1953.  She was born in 1891, Dulcena Ferrier (Marlin) and married Walter Elbert Marlin in 1912 in Missouri.  They came to California in the late l930’s after my parents moved to the Los Angeles area.  My father was their only child, Ray J. Marlin.  Everyone called my grandmother either Dulcie or Dulce, never Dulcena.
