Carol’s Bread and Butter Pudding

This is a very traditional recipe, and worth trying; you can serve it warm with a little custard sauce on top, if you like.  There are so many variations today which add different flavorings and tons and tons of sugar.  I made one the other day that was lemon flavored with dried blueberries.  It was good but nothing like this recipe, which I am sure was originally invented to use up dried bread.  This is almost exactly like the recipe I got in Ireland nearly 25 years ago.
