ALEDO, ILLINOIS – 1920

006This photo came from my grandmother’s photo album and was taken when she and husband and my father lived in Aledo, Illinois around 1920.  There is some writing on the back of the photo, but the damage done by gluing into the album prevents me from making any sense of it.  I wonder if people actually lived in these buildings and tent?

  1. It’s a shame you can’t read the back. (I have some old photos like that), but at least you have this piece of Americana to share with us. You know the old say – A picture is worth a thousand words.

    • My grandmother wrote something on the back, but it may not have been very enlightening, even if I could read it. She would often send a little message on the back of a photo rather than a description, but the tent is definitely referred to, so who knows? I often wish I could have just half an hour with some of the long departed relatives…just to ask questions!

  3. Maybe the tent was for visitors….That would keep the stay short. I’ve said it before, people back then lived hard lives. I always feel privileged to have running water, electricity and most of all privacy.
