This is the door that came from the Browne Family home in Lower Abbeygate Street in 1905. It sits on one side of Eyre Square (formally known as John F. Kennedy Memorial Park). I don’t know the history of this move, but the Browne family are known as one of the Tribes of Galway, families who were prosperous and wealthy merchants and politically connected in Galway. The first Marquess of Sligo was John Browne, who built Westport House in Westport, County Mayo. The Brownes were in Ireland as early as 1130 AD.
