Are you all watching the Great British Baking Show on PBS? It’s sort of like American Idol for British bakers. Each week someone gets sent home after baking three recipes and each week they feature something different…sponge cakes, biscuits (cookies), bread etc. I find it fascinating to watch, especially when the contestants make a mistake and then recover…the sign of a good baker! It started here in L.A. Sunday night and the first thing the contestants had to bake was a sponge cake. Here is a great recipe:

That really sounds like a fun show. I will have to check it out. I have never made a sponge cake before. The flavors on this one sound wonderful!

In the UK and Ireland, sponge cakes are very popular. You basically bake two flat round layers and put something wonderful in the middle before slicing…it’s a traditional cake served with tea…
